About the Journal

Focus and Scope

Beyond Borders: Advances in Global Welfare (BBAGW) is a peer-reviewed journal dedicated to advancing knowledge and practice in the field of Social Work with a global orientation. The journal emphasizes innovative and impactful research, reflecting on diverse social welfare issues from an international perspective. Each year, a specific theme or topic of global relevance is identified, forming the basis for scholarly reflection and discourse.

To achieve this, leading scholars in the specified area are invited to submit manuscripts for the first issue of the year. These contributions will set the stage for a robust academic dialogue, as the invited scholars will also recommend potential respondents. These respondents will provide critical analyses and perspectives on the initial manuscripts, and their replies will be featured in the second issue of the year.

In addition to these scholarly exchanges, each of these issues will feature profiles of select human service organizations that are at the forefront of utilizing evidence-based practices and innovative approaches to transform social service delivery. These organizational profiles will spotlight emerging concepts or issues that are sparking debate within the field of Social Work, ensuring that the journal remains on the cutting edge of community-based practices.

The journal's scope includes, but is not limited to, the following areas:

  1. Global Social Welfare Policy: Examination of social policies across different countries and their impacts on vulnerable populations.
  2. Innovative Responses and Practice Models: Studies using creative approaches to address complex social issues.
  3. Human Rights and Social Justice: Research on the protection and promotion of human rights and social justice in various contexts.
  4. Cultural Responsiveness and Anti-Oppressive Practice: Exploration of culturally responsive and anti-oppressive practices that promote equity and diversity within social work practice.
